Fat injections have been used for years to add volume, fill wrinkles, lines and enhance the lips. Fat injections involve taking fat from one part of the patient’s body (abdomen, thighs or buttocks) and reinjecting it beneath the facial skin. Unlike bovine collagen, allergic reaction is not a factor as the fat is harvested from the patient’s own body. Results are variable, but can be permanent.
As with any injection or surgery site, watch for signs of infection and redness. Swelling may occur and is normal. An ice pack placed on the site of injection will reduce swelling. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics and pain medication after surgery. In a few days to a couple weeks, the swelling and pain should be completely gone. Minimal bruising may occur. You may return to work in a couple days.
