BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is a revolutionary approach to reversing the effects of facial wrinkles. Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) injections are used to temporarily reduce wrinkles associated with forehead, eye and facial animation, also called dynamic wrinkle lines. Botox weakens the forehead, face and the muscles around the eyes for several months.
This causes the associated wrinkles to disappear. Botox has been shown to eliminate frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and lip wrinkles. Botox is FDA approved for wrinkle reduction and the treatment of excessive sweating. Botox has also been shown to some individuals with migraine headaches.
BOTOX injections are relatively painless. Only a very small sting is felt when the injections are made. Ice or topical anesthetics can be used lessen the discomfort. The effects are not permanent and may need to be repeated two to three times per year to retain the effects.
Research has suggested, however, that long-term use of BOTOX® Cosmetic leads to a longer duration of each treatment's effect. BOTOX is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by aging.
